About This Location

Mitaki-dera is a historic Buddhist temple nestled in the mountains of Hiroshima City. Surrounded by dense forest, moss-covered stone paths, waterfalls, and traditional Buddhist architecture, the temple has a particularly atmospheric character that changes with the seasons.

The temple is especially beautiful in autumn, when the surrounding trees turn brilliant shades of red and orange, but it is also worth visiting in winter and spring for its quiet atmosphere and lush natural surroundings. The sound of flowing water and the many small waterfalls along the temple grounds make this a peaceful place to explore and photograph.

Although Mitaki-dera is located within Hiroshima City, it feels surprisingly remote and secluded. It is a good destination for photographers looking for a quieter side of Hiroshima away from the city's better-known tourist attractions.

Access:
Mitaki-dera can be reached without a car. From JR Mitaki Station, the temple can be reached on foot, although the walk involves an uphill route. Buses also run to the area around the temple, making public transportation a convenient option for visitors staying in central Hiroshima.
