About This Location

Hoshi-no-Beach is a small and peaceful seaside spot in the Wasa district of Suo-Oshima Island. Two symmetrical breakwaters extend into the calm Seto Inland Sea, each featuring a distinctive star-shaped wind-vane monument. The combination of the blue sea, the monuments and the surrounding islands makes it an attractive stop for landscape photography and cycling.

The beach is located in the hometown of Tetsuro Hoshino, a celebrated Japanese lyricist known for songs including “365 Steps March.” The star motif reflects this local connection and gives the otherwise quiet beach a memorable identity.

At night, the south-facing shoreline offers good conditions for stargazing and astrophotography. The illuminated star monument can be combined with the night sky for a distinctive composition. Visitors coming after dark should bring a flashlight and take care around the breakwaters and water’s edge.

Visiting by car is the practical choice. The beach is approximately 55 minutes from Kuga Interchange. Free parking is available on a raised area on the mountain side of the prefectural road; the entrance and uneven surface were improved in April 2026.
