About This Location

Tucked away behind Hiroshima Gokoku Shrine within the Hiroshima Castle grounds, this is a quiet and largely unknown sunset photography spot.

During the daytime, there is little to distinguish it from the surrounding parkland. Its appeal becomes clear in the late afternoon, when the western sky begins to glow and the area takes on a peaceful atmosphere. It is not a major sightseeing attraction, but rather a small local secret for visitors who enjoy sunset photography and discovering places away from the usual tourist routes.

The location is not signposted and can be slightly difficult to find. First make your way to Hiroshima Gokoku Shrine, then walk around the rear side of the shrine and follow the paths toward the map coordinates. Using the location pin is strongly recommended. Stay on established paths and do not enter fenced or restricted areas.

The official Hiroshima Castle map shows Hiroshima Gokoku Shrine on the lower western side of the Honmaru grounds, although this particular sunset point is not marked as an attraction.

For the best light, arrive around 20 to 30 minutes before sunset. There is little reason to make a special trip here during the middle of the day, so it works best as a quiet final stop after visiting Hiroshima Castle or the shrine.
