Princess Takiyasha
Princess Takiyasha, the daughter of the rebel Taira no Masakado, uses supernatural powers to fight against the imperial forces. Her transformation and the appearance of monstrous creatures create one of the most dramatic scenes in Kagura.
Takiyasha is the daughter of Taira no Masakado, who rebelled against the imperial government in the tenth century. After her father's defeat and death, Takiyasha remains at the ruined stronghold of Sōma. She uses powerful magic and supernatural forces in an attempt to continue her family's struggle. When warriors sent by the imperial government confront her, she summons monstrous creatures and transforms into a terrifying supernatural figure before engaging them in battle.

The Giant Toad — A large supernatural creature associated with Takiyasha's magic and one of the performance's most striking figures.
Watch Takiyasha's use of supernatural power and her transformation into a frightening figure. The appearance of summoned monsters, especially the giant toad, creates some of the most unusual imagery in Hiroshima Kagura. The contrast between Takiyasha's human appearance and her supernatural power is central to the performance.
