Saito Struggles Against Dragons, Misses Chance for Second Win

Hiroshima Toyo Carp right-hander Yuta Saito endured a difficult outing against the Chunichi Dragons, allowing five runs on five hits over four innings.

The 21-year-old surrendered two home runs, including a first-inning solo shot to All-Star MVP Seiya Hosokawa, giving Chunichi an early lead.

The Dragons added another run in the third inning before Saito allowed a three-run home run in the fourth, ending his afternoon after 77 pitches.

Saito was replaced by a pinch hitter in the bottom of the fourth inning as Hiroshima looked to spark a comeback.

Despite the disappointing result, Saito had shown encouraging form in his previous start, earning his first career NPB victory after allowing just one run over five innings against the Yomiuri Giants on July 22.

Entering the game, Saito owned a 2.45 ERA through three appearances this season.

While he missed the opportunity to earn his second win, the young right-hander remains one of the Carp’s promising pitching prospects as he continues to gain experience at the top level.
