Young reliever Tsuji endured one of the most difficult outings of his career during Hiroshima’s Peace Night loss to the Giants. But one moment after the game showed the strong bond within the Carp clubhouse.
The Hiroshima Toyo Carp suffered a painful 11–7 loss to the Yomiuri Giants on August 6 during the club’s annual Peace Night game at Mazda Stadium.
One of the most emotional moments came in the seventh inning, when young reliever Tsuji entered the game with Hiroshima leading 6–4.
Tsuji struggled to find the strike zone, issuing two walks and hitting a batter. The difficult inning allowed the Giants to erase Hiroshima’s lead, and he was replaced before the inning ended.
The outing was clearly heartbreaking for the young pitcher.
After returning to the dugout, Tsuji was seen in tears, visibly devastated by the result. Following the game, as the Carp players lined up to bow to the fans, Tsuji remained bowed longer than anyone else, appearing determined to express his sincere apology after such a painful loss.
Another memorable moment came in the dugout, where fellow pitcher Hiroki Endo stayed beside Tsuji, offering words of encouragement and comforting his teammate.
It was a small gesture, but one that reflected the culture inside the Hiroshima clubhouse. Even after a heartbreaking defeat, teammates stood together, reminding everyone that baseball is a team sport not only during victories, but also through difficult moments.
For many Carp fans, that display of support may have been just as meaningful as anything that happened on the field. It was a reminder that while games can be lost, trust and unity within a team are built during moments like these.
