Masato Morishita Reaches 1,000 Career Innings, Becoming the 377th Pitcher in NPB History to Reach the Milestone

Hiroshima Carp ace Masato Morishita has reached 1,000 career innings, becoming the 377th pitcher in NPB history to reach the milestone. The 28-year-old right-hander achieved the mark in his 151st career appearance and seventh professional season.

Hiroshima Carp right-hander Masato Morishita reached an important milestone on August 21, becoming the 377th pitcher in NPB history to record 1,000 career innings.

Morishita reached the milestone during the Carp's game against the Yomiuri Giants at Tokyo Dome. After completing the seventh inning, he returned to the dugout and was presented with a commemorative board celebrating the achievement.

The 28-year-old right-hander reached 1,000 innings in his 151st career appearance, seven seasons after joining Hiroshima as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2019 NPB Draft.

Morishita was selected out of Meiji University and quickly established himself as one of the Carp's most reliable starting pitchers. His ability to consistently work deep into games has been an important part of his value to Hiroshima since his professional debut.

The milestone also comes at an interesting point in Morishita's career.

Earlier this season, he struggled badly enough to be sent down to the minor leagues for adjustments. His return to the first team initially produced solid results, but his biggest statement came on August 14 against the Hanshin Tigers.

Morishita delivered one of his best performances of the season, throwing eight innings and allowing just one run against the league-leading Tigers. He also contributed at the plate with an RBI single, helping Hiroshima snap a six-game losing streak with a 6–1 victory.

Carp manager Takahiro Arai praised the performance afterward, saying that Morishita's pitching that day was much closer to the pitcher he normally is.

That performance was particularly important for Hiroshima because the team's pitching staff has been under significant pressure. Several starters have struggled to work deep into games, forcing the bullpen to take on a heavy workload.

With September approaching and the Carp facing an extremely crowded schedule, having Morishita capable of consistently pitching deep into games could become one of the team's biggest advantages.

Reaching 1,000 innings at age 28 is also a significant indication of Morishita's durability and importance to Hiroshima.

He has already established himself as one of the key pitchers of the current Carp era. Now, with 1,000 innings behind him, the next question is how far he can climb on the NPB's all-time innings list.

For a team desperately looking for stability during a difficult season, the timing could hardly be better.

Morishita has reached 1,000 innings. Now Hiroshima will hope there are many more to come.
