Hiroshima Carp Will Allow Players to Re-Sign After Declaring Free Agency: Tokoda, Morishita and Sakakura All Qualify

Hiroshima Carp team president Kiyoaki Suzuki has confirmed that the club will allow players to declare domestic free agency and still re-sign with Hiroshima. Hiroki Tokoda, Masato Morishita and Shogo Sakakura all qualified for domestic free agency this season, with multiple teams reportedly already monitoring their situations.

Hiroshima Carp team president Kiyoaki Suzuki, 72, announced on October 15 that the club will permit players to declare free agency and then remain with Hiroshima if they choose to do so.

Tokoda, Morishita and Sakakura all qualified for domestic free agency this season.

Speaking to reporters at Mazda Stadium, Suzuki made the club's position clear.

“Of course, we want them to stay. Even if they declare free agency, if they want to remain here, they can stay,” he said.

Several teams are already reportedly evaluating the three players as potential free-agent targets.

The Carp have never previously had a player declare free agency and then re-sign with the club.

Sakakura and Morishita have already held discussions with Hiroshima, while negotiations with Tokoda are expected to begin in the coming days.
