Hiroki Tokoda will make his third "Opening Day" start of the 2026 season when the Hiroshima Toyo Carp begin the second half. The left-handed starter is determined to help the team get off to a winning start.
Hiroshima Toyo Carp left-handed pitcher Hiroki Tokoda has been named the team's starter for the opening game of the second half of the 2026 season.
It will be Tokoda's third "Opening Day" assignment this year, following his starts in the regular season opener and the first game of the Interleague Play.
At age 31, Tokoda expressed his determination to give the Carp a strong start after the All-Star break.
"I want to win. I want us to get off to a good start."
Tokoda did not receive a decision in either of his previous two Opening Day starts, and the team split those games with one win and one loss.
After his previous outing, Tokoda had 10 days between starts and increased the intensity of his preparation.
"I hope I can show that this was the right decision."
The Carp will be counting on their dependable left-hander to lead the team into the second half and create momentum with a strong performance on the mound.
