Daichi Osera Reaches 600 Career Strikeouts at Mazda Stadium With Dominant Three-Strikeout Inning

Hiroshima Carp veteran Daichi Osera reached 600 career strikeouts at Mazda Stadium on September 4, becoming the first pitcher to reach the milestone at the home ballpark since it opened in 2009. Making his third relief appearance after returning to the bullpen for the first time in 10 years, the 35-year-old struck out three consecutive batters in a dominant seventh inning.

Hiroshima Carp veteran Daichi Osera reached an impressive milestone at Mazda Stadium on September 4, recording his 600th career strikeout at the ballpark.

Osera took the mound in the seventh inning with Hiroshima trailing the Yomiuri Giants 3-1. Despite the deficit, the veteran right-hander delivered a dominant performance, striking out all three batters he faced.

He opened the inning by striking out Taiki Sasaki swinging on a 149 km/h fastball.

Osera then needed just three pitches to catch Takuma Nakayama looking at strike three before finishing the inning by striking out pinch-hitter Yuki Hagio swinging on a 141 km/h pitch.

The three consecutive strikeouts gave Osera his 600th career strikeout at Mazda Stadium, a milestone he became the first pitcher to reach at the ballpark since it opened in 2009.

“I wanted to create some momentum. We scored a run right afterward, so personally, I feel like I did my job.”

Although Hiroshima ultimately lost the game 3-1, Osera's inning provided the team with a much-needed spark.

The 35-year-old had recently returned to the first team after spending nearly four months away. He has also made the unusual transition back to the bullpen this season, marking his first genuine relief role in roughly 10 years.

Rather than simply looking at his own milestone, Osera is focused on using his experience to help the team during the final stretch of the season.

“Next time I pitch, I want to make sure I can bring that momentum back to the team.”

As Hiroshima's oldest pitcher, Osera's return to the bullpen could prove valuable during the team's push for the postseason. His experience, combined with the ability to deliver high-quality short outings, gives the Carp another weapon for the final weeks of the season.
