The Hiroshima Toyo Carp announced on July 30 that Hiroshima Prefectural Police conducted searches of the homes and other related locations of infielders Masaya Yano and Seita Maekawa.
Following the announcement, the Carp removed Seita Maekawa from the active first-team roster. Masaya Yano had already been removed from the roster on July 17.
The team released a statement saying:
“We sincerely apologize to our fans and everyone involved for the concern and worry caused by this situation. The Hiroshima Toyo Carp will fully cooperate with the police investigation.”
The Carp stated that they take the matter seriously and will cooperate with authorities.
Earlier in February, before the start of the season, the team terminated its contract with Ryutaro Hatsuki after he was arrested and indicted. This marks another incident during the season involving police involvement with a Carp player.
