Carp Fall to Giants on Hiroshima Peace Night

The Hiroshima Toyo Carp surrendered a late lead in an 11–7 loss to the Yomiuri Giants on Hiroshima’s annual Peace Night. Manager Takahiro Arai praised his team’s fighting spirit but stressed the need for the pitching staff to learn from the defeat.

The Hiroshima Toyo Carp suffered an 11–7 loss to the Yomiuri Giants at Mazda Stadium on Peace Night 2026, an annual game held on August 6 to honor the victims of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and promote the message of peace.

Hiroshima carried a two-run lead into the seventh inning before the Giants rallied with four runs to take control of the game. The visitors continued to add insurance runs over the final innings, finishing with 17 hits.

Despite the defeat, the Carp continued to battle offensively until the final out.

After the game, manager Takahiro Arai reflected on the significance of playing on such an important day.

“It was a very special game for us, so it’s disappointing that we couldn’t win. Our hitters never gave up and kept fighting until the end.”

Arai also challenged his pitching staff to learn from the difficult outing.

“Even when runs are allowed, there are better ways to manage those situations. I hope today’s experience will help us in the next game.”

The loss dropped Hiroshima back to the bottom of the Central League standings for the first time since May 9.

Even so, the atmosphere at Mazda Stadium remained focused on the day’s larger message, as players and fans came together to remember Hiroshima’s history and renew their commitment to peace.
