Carp Face Grueling September Schedule After Ninth Game Postponement of the Season

The Hiroshima Carp’s game against the Yakult Swallows on August 11 was postponed due to the approaching typhoon, marking the team’s ninth postponement of the season. The makeup game has created an extremely demanding September schedule, with Hiroshima set to play 26 games in 30 days, including an eight-game stretch followed by a nine-game stretch.

The Hiroshima Toyo Carp are facing an increasingly demanding schedule after their August 11 game against the Tokyo Yakult Swallows at Meiji Jingu Stadium was postponed because of the approaching typhoon.

The postponement marked Hiroshima’s ninth canceled game of the season.

Ryoji Kuribayashi had been scheduled to start for Hiroshima, while Kojiro Yoshimura was scheduled to start for Yakult. The makeup game has already been set for September 15 at 6:00 p.m.

The additional game has created an extremely crowded September schedule for the Carp.

Hiroshima is scheduled to play 26 games in just 30 days during September. The team will begin an eight-game stretch starting with the September 8 game against the Hanshin Tigers at Koshien Stadium.

After a scheduled travel day on September 16, Hiroshima will immediately begin another nine-game stretch starting September 17, again against Hanshin at Koshien.

The four days without games during the month are all expected to be travel days, leaving very little opportunity for the players to rest.

The schedule comes at a difficult time for Hiroshima. The Carp currently sit sixth in the Central League with a record 18 games below .500, while trailing the third-place Yokohama DeNA BayStars by six games.

Despite the difficult position, Hiroshima remains within striking distance of the playoff race.

The Carp will now have to navigate one of the most demanding stretches of their season if they are to make a late push for a place in the top three.

With a depleted pitching staff and several players already dealing with injuries, the September schedule could become one of the biggest challenges of Hiroshima's season.

For the Carp, the path back into the playoff race will not only depend on their performance on the field. They will also have to survive the sheer physical demands of a schedule that leaves almost no room for rest.
