Arai Stays Positive After Loss, Says Performance “Can Lead to Tomorrow”

Despite a heavy defeat, Hiroshima Toyo Carp manager Takahiro Arai remained optimistic, saying the team’s quality of contact was encouraging and expressing confidence that young pitcher Yuta Saito will learn from the experience.

The Hiroshima Toyo Carp suffered a tough defeat after managing just one run from seven hits, but manager Takahiro Arai focused on the positives following the game.

Hiroshima created several scoring opportunities throughout the contest but was unable to capitalize. The Carp hit a number of balls solidly, including hard-hit outs that failed to find gaps.

After the game, Arai said the offensive performance offered reasons for optimism.

“We hit a lot of balls well. I think the quality of our at-bats can carry over into tomorrow.”

Starting pitcher Yuta Saito allowed five runs over four innings in his fourth appearance of the season. While the result was disappointing, Arai pointed out that opposing teams are beginning to adjust after studying the young right-hander.

“They’re attacking his fastball from the very first pitch. That’s part of baseball—both sides continue to make adjustments. I want him to use this experience and be ready for his next start.”

Saito earned his first NPB victory in his previous outing, and the Carp continue to view the 21-year-old as an important part of the club’s future.

Although Hiroshima’s losing record grew with the defeat, the team hopes that improved quality at the plate and continued development from its young players will help turn things around in the coming games.
